In a written reply to a Parliamentary question, during a recent parliamentary session, Khaw Boon Wan, Minister of Development said that that the 2015 Build to Order launches will include around 4,000 two room flats in order to supply the needs of low income families and single people.

Mr. Khaw said that because the figures for new families formed in Singapore are estimated to be around 15,000 per year, the government is confident that the supply will be adequate. He added that with resale prices continuing to moderate the government was expecting that more buyers would return to the resale housing market rather than waiting for the Build to Order flats to be built.
Mr. Khaw added further that the government could not leave completed Housing Development Board flats empty while waiting for a demand surge because to do so would incur costs. The government could however attempt to predict the likely demand for Westwood Residences near NTU and to build just in time to assuage that demand. He added that the government’s current efforts were directed towards ensuring a smooth transition from the sudden increase to more sustainable period as supply and demand for Build to Order flats balances.
More Built to Order flats in the West

Colliers International’s Deputy Managing Director Grace Ng said that the house, which is to be sold with vacant possession, would be perfect for either developers for Westwood Residences or owner-occupiers or the buyer could sub-divide the land and build two 4,990 square foot bungalows so that large extended families could live on the site. Ms. Ng added that, as there are only 10,660 detached houses in Singapore, this property auction sale was rather special.
